Timothy Kavanaugh, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder, hip, and knee pain in Scottsdale, Arizona. As the founder of AZ Ortho, Dr. Kavanaugh provides exceptional orthopedic care to the local community using the latest surgical and nonsurgical techniques.
Dr. Kavanaugh completed his medical degree at Chicago Medical School in North Chicago, Illinois. He then went on to complete an Orthopedic Surgery residency at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
After residency, Dr. Kavanaugh completed a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction(joint replacement and revision) in Albuquerque, New Mexico under the direction of Dr. Richard E. White.

His goal with every procedure is to help improve your quality of life. From physical therapy and anti-inflammatory medications, to joint injections and replacement surgery, he evaluates your whole health to determine the proper approach and deliver the lasting pain relief you need.
Dr. Kavanaugh has successfully performed over 8,000 joint replacements and revisions in his career. He is constantly evaluating new techniques to incorporate in the operating room in order to improve patient outcomes. He currently uses multiple different robotic techniques in the OR for both hip and knee replacements. He also uses patient-specific guides for shoulder replacements.
He is a fellow of both the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
Outside of the office, Dr. Kavanaugh enjoys fishing, golfing, traveling, and spending quality time with his family.
